This announcement is for an Administrative Specialist in the Office of the Assistant Director in the Directorate for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE). SBE supports the research that underlies such findings, as well as other research that builds fundamental knowledge of human behavior, interaction, and social and economic systems, organizations and institutions. The primary purposes of this position are to provide administrative support for the management and business activities of the Office of the Assistant Director (OAD) and strategic planning efforts of SBE, to support the senior leadership team by conducting research and analysis on subjects, and to manage the day-to-day operations and activities of the OAD. This position serves as back-up to the secretary to the Assistant Director. Specific duties include the following:
Research and Analytical Support
Conducts research and analyzes information on NSF's administrative policies and develops standard operating procedures;
Plans and executes annual certifications and data calls, extracting data and drafting responses;
Leads a team in reviewing SBE's administrative processes, practices and procedures and takes action on changes that may be required;
Conducts periodic studies to evaluate SBE internal policies and office procedures for efficiency and consistency with administrative polices;
Develops recommendations to ensure compliance with SBE and NSF guidance;
Develops, implements and evaluates policies and procedures for effectiveness in supporting SBE administrative objectives.
Administrative and Logistical Support
Serves as a confidential assistant to the Deputy Assistant Director;
Plans and coordinates complex business activities;
Schedules meetings and prepares and distributes meeting materials;
Plans, monitors, and coordinates the calendar for the Division Director;
Reviews, prepares, and provides administrative guidance to the Division staff;
Provides logistical support to Merit Review Panels, Committee of Visitors meeting, and Advisory Committee meetings;
Assist with processing proposal actions in support of the merit review process.
OAD Administrative Support
Prepares travel arrangements for the AD, DAD, and senior staff and visitors;
Maintains a variety of operational files and records;
Assists with the procurement of office supplies and equipment;
Greets and receives guests to the Division;
Answers, screens and refers telephone callers;
Reviews, screens, forwards or personally handles incoming mail;
Serves as the OAD timekeeper;
Manages the day-to-day administrative operations of the OAD.

This is a non-bargaining unit position. Category rating procedures will be used to rank and select eligibles. Based on your responses to the occupational questionnaire, you will be assigned a score. Your score will determine in which of three categories you will be placed: Excellent, Very Good, or Good. Under this process, veterans will be assigned to the appropriate category (without additional preference points) and then placed at the top of their category.
Veterans with service-connected disability of 10% or more will be placed at the top of the highest quality category.

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature. Examples of specialized experience include: serving as a personal assistant in a confidential capacity to a senior agency official; performing management planning, meeting planning, and coordinating and organizing policy activities; performing various administrative duties independently; and completing special assignments of a high priority and sensitive nature. OR
Possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR
Possess 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR
Possess a combination of post high school education and experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
