STORMWATER ENGINEER

Position Information The Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Stormwater Engineer to provide professional engineering expertise and project management activities for assigned projects, which includes preparing construction engineering plan and reviewing designs for civil engineering projects.
This employee will work in the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management as a member of the Stormwater Infrastructure Team and provides professional engineering expertise, administrative support and coordination for the Bureau, County staff, the public and other external agencies.
Specific duties include:
Analyzing engineering problems, determining possible solutions, and selecting best alternatives based on stated goals and objectives of assignment;Applying standard engineering principles and practices to troubleshoot and resolve system problems during normal and emergency operations;Assisting with identifying, planning, and prioritizing short and long-term projects;Interpreting new regulations, technical information, and other material, as well as determining impact on work unit and recommending methods for implementation;Evaluating site plans/engineering construction plans/contract plans, providing comments, and recommending modifications;Reviewing public right-of-way permits to ensure proposed work under such permits does not conflict with, or damage existing public water, sanitary and storm infrastructure;Performing site visits before, during, and after plan review process to ensure familiarity with all aspects of site design and constructability;Instructing and training other engineers, technicians, and trades employees in the maintenance, operation, and application of a variety of administrative and/or operational systems;Assessing master plans and translating information to short-term priorities and needs; andEvaluating the work of outside consultants who provide design services on projects, including providing consultation to other staff, citizens, and developers regarding assigned area.
Selection Criteria Minimums:
Junior Level - Engineer I (Minimum):
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or applicable engineering discipline; andExperience using Autodesk Civil3D or similar CAD software.
Journey Level - Engineer II (Minimum):
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or applicable engineering discipline; andSignificant professional-level engineering experience post Bachelor's OR Considerable professional-level engineering work experience post Bachelor's plus at least 1 of the required certifications.
Senior Level - Engineer III (Minimum):
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or applicable engineering discipline; andProgressively responsible significant professional-level engineering work experience post Bachelor's OR Significant professional-level engineering work experience post Bachelor's plus at least 2 of the required certifications.
Substitution:
Experience may not be substituted for the Engineering Degree requirement.
A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for one year of Engineering experience.
Desirable:
Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's Degree in a related field and Possession of one or more of the following Certifications/Licenses:
Professional Engineer (PE) License;Engineer in Training (EIT) Designation;Project Management Professional (PMP); and/orCertified Flood Plain Manager.
Special Requirements The following licensure, certifications, or trainings may be required based on assignment for Engineer II and Engineer III Levels:
Project Management Professional (PMP);Certified Flood Plain Manager; Arlington County Project officer; andVDOT Advanced Work Zone Traffic Control.
This position will require travel around Arlington County for various meetings and field inspections.
The selected candidate must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver license, and must provide or authorize Arlington County to obtain a copy of official state/district driving record.
Any offer of employment may be contingent upon favorable review of the applicants driving record.
A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted.

criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
