DEPUTY DIVISION CHIEF

Position Information The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking an experienced, proactive, team-oriented Deputy Division Chief to provide strategic leadership for the Parks and Natural Resources (PNR) Division.
This senior level position will provide planning and operational management of the Environmental Planning, Programming and Operational Team which consists of Urban Forestry, Landscaping, Natural Resource Management, Urban Agriculture, Conservation and Interpretation and Park Ranger lines of business.
This Senior position will report to the PNR Division Chief, be a member of DPR's dynamic and dedicated Extended Leadership Team (ELT), operate with substantial independence, and work collaboratively with other senior leaders to lead, improve, and facilitate processes, develop strategic initiatives, and policies that support the PNR Division's mission to preserve and enhance natural resources and provide environmental stewardship.

Specific Duties:
The Deputy Division Chief oversees the management and operations of Arlington County's Environmental Planning, Programming, and Operations Teams.
Some of the major duties of this position include:
Providing supervision of a multi-disciplinary team with six Unit managers who oversee the following lines of business:
Urban Forestry, Landscaping, Natural Resource Management, Urban Agriculture, Conservation and Interpretation, and Park Rangers; including 40 full-time permanent and temporary staff, with an $4.
775 million operating budget;Overseeing implementation of the Forestry and Natural Resources Plan that outlines policies and programs that advance the County's Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP), and serves as a blueprint for enriching residents' relationship with nature;Overseeing the Urban Forestry Unit, which includes the planting, maintenance, and removal of trees on County property, developing and implementing long and short-term strategies and policies to enhance tree canopy and forest health; including overseeing development plans and construction projects to ensure compliance with County ordinances and tree preservation/planting requirements;Overseeing the Landscape Unit, which maintains Arlington County's landscape areas safely, efficiently, and using the latest industry standards for landscape maintenance to support aesthetically pleasing, biophilic, healthy and ecologically valuable outdoor spaces;Managing the Natural Resources Management Unit which provides stewardship for the preservation and management of natural resources on County owned and managed open spaces; including habitat restoration, invasive plant management, maintaining biotic inventories, providing expertise on wildlife, and organizing stewardship volunteering;Overseeing the Urban Agriculture Unit, which manages the County's community gardens, farmers markets and coordination with state, regional and local partners, including Virginia Cooperative Extension;Managing the Conservation and Interpretation Unit, which provides cultural resource management, environmental education programs and outreach at two nature centers; including information, exhibits, scheduled interpretative programs, camps, and special events for drop-in and registered visitors; andProviding guidance and support to the Park Rangers Unit that create a safe and secure environment for when visitors at our parks, which includes routine foot patrols, mountain bike, and vehicles to ensure visitor compliance with all park rules and regulations, as well as closing designated facilities at dark, checking for safety concerns/issues, providing park information to visitors, and response to medical emergencies.

ARLINGTON COUNTY GOVERNMENT Arlington County has a County Manager form of government, which is governed by a five-member County Board.

Selection Criteria Minimum:
Bachelor's degree in forestry, environmental educational, landscape program management, horticulture, or related field; andThree (3) years' of progressively responsible experience in program management/administration in the forestry, landscape, or natural resource/conservation field.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Desirables:
Preference may be given to candidates with a Master's Degree in related field and experience and/or certification in one or more of the following:
Leading forestry, natural resource management or conservation and interpretation-related planning/policy initiatives;Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA);Arborist Certification by the International Society of Arboriculture; andUsing geographic information system (GIS) and/or asset management system.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
