SENIOR REAL ESTATE APPRAISER (PROMOTIONAL)

This is a promotional opportunity open only to current employees in the Department of Management and Finance's Real Estate Appraisal Division with permanent status in the Arlington County competitive service.
The Department of Management and Finance has an exciting promotional opportunity for current Real Estate Appraisers (Full Performance).
Three Senior Real Estate Appraiser roles are being established within the Real Estate Assessment Division.
These positions will lead and mentor a team responsible for developing and defending annual assessments of real estate utilizing Direct Sales Comparison Approach, Income Approach, and Cost Approach to Valuation.
The Senior Real Estate Appraiser will focus on one of three property types:
Commercial, Residential, or Condominiums and will perform Real Estate Appraisals (full performance) functions, as well as providing senior technical advice, reviewing work of staff and providing feedback, addressing escalated issues, mentoring team staff, and leading special projects.
Specific Duties Include:
Reviewing, providing input/feedback, and approving the work of Real Estate Appraisers, including supplemental assessments and analysis; Reviewing appeals; Assisting and appearing before the Board of Equalization in support of Appraisers; Leading team projects; Mentoring trainees as they come on board and answering questions from team members; Acting in place of the supervisor when needed; and Maintaining all other duties of a Real Estate Appraiser The ideal candidate will have the ability to address escalated, complex DREA issues with technical analysis and diplomacy, have experience defending multiple property types before the Board of Equalization, and the ability to provide technical review of other Real Estate Appraisers.
Selection Criteria This recruitment is open only to Arlington County employees in DMF's Real Estate Appraisal Division with permanent status in the Arlington County competitive service.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in business, real estate, or a related field Significant of experience as a Real Estate Appraiser (full performance) Completion of the following course:
IAAO 300 - Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal within one year of hire/assignment Considerable experience using and knowledge of the following programs:
Computer assisted mass appraisal software, mobile assessor, and Excel Substitutions:
Additional experience in real estate appraisal may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable:
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in the following:
Experience defending assessments before the Board of Equalization (BOE);Experience developing commercial guidelines and income and expense analysis;Experience providing residential sales and land allocation analysis; IAAO designation or Virginia Appraisal license; Experience mentoring and assisting other Real Estate Appraisers; Experience completing Real Estate Appraisal (full performance) assignments within deadlines; Experience providing project leadership; and/or Experience with utilizing statistical analysis software such as Excel to conduct and produce reports on in depth analysis of data; and/or Successful completion of any of the following IAAO courses:
300 - Fundamentals of Mass Appraisal 400 - Assessment Administration 402 - Assessment Tax Policy Special Requirements Employee will be required to operate a County vehicle to perform assigned duties at locations other than the primary worksite.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
