TREASURER'S OFFICE, TREASURY SPECIALIST II - COLLECTOR

Position Information The Arlington County Treasurer's Office is accepting applications for the following employment opportunity:
Treasury Specialist II - Collector.
This full-time position is for a delinquent debt collector on the call center team within the Compliance Division of Arlington County's Treasurer's Office.
This employee provides a variety of front-line customer service, compliance, administrative and/or technical support duties to the collection and processing of taxes and fees.
The Treasurer's Office serves an ethnically and culturally diverse population that includes a large number of Spanish-speaking clients for whom English is a second language.
Specific duties include:
Contacting debtors regarding delinquent accounts;Responding to taxpayer and debtor inquiries received in person, by email, and by phone in a call center environment;Explaining tax policies and regulations to customers;Conducting skip traces to determine debtors' whereabouts;Referring customers to other County and/or State agencies as needed; andReferring delinquent accounts for lien and seizure when appropriate.
To be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will need to have excellent oral and written communication skills, computer proficiency, and excellent customer service skills.
Selection Criteria Minimum:
High school diploma or the equivalent, plus two years of administrative support experience.
Substitution:
An Associate's degree (or successful completion of 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours) in any field may be substituted for up to one year of experience.
A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 18 months of required experience.
Desirable:
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
Bilingual (English and Spanish);Experience using a wide range of software programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite or similar software; and/orExperience working directly with the public explaining policies, regulations and/or tax regulations to customers.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
