This announcement is specific to the Tweens/Teens Camp Staff.
If you are interested in other camp program areas, you must apply for that position as well.
Opportunities for temporary summer employment with the Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) include work as Camp Directors, Assistant Directors, and support staff (counselors) in camp programs throughout the County.
Tween/Teen Camp Counselors are needed to provide camp programs for the tween/teen audience ages 11-16.
The Director position will be responsible for the overall planning and implementing of activities for middle and HS age participants.
Several positions are available, and hours vary.
Staff must commit from June 20 - August 12 (core camp dates).
Additional weeks from August 15 - August 27 may also be available.
Training and planning begin in mid to late May through June, which includes a combination of independent and self-paced online courses with virtual and in-person trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays.
All camp staff will be trained to follow current guidelines (County-specific protocols) related to Covid-19 safety and health standards.
Tweens/Teens Camps:
Our camps are designed to provide tweens/teens a fun, safe, challenging, and enriching environment where they learn, grow and play! Our full day and half day camps provide a variety of activities based on a weekly theme that include sports, games, art, and teambuilding.
Our specialty camps have an overall topic or theme that campers will engage in throughout the week, examples include health & wellness, community experiences, and more.
Camp programs may be offered at indoor community centers and schools.
We are currently hiring for the following Camps:
The Office for Teenagers offers three Junior Jam camps at three locations in Arlington for ages 11-16 from June 21st thru August 12th.
Summer Adventure program located at one of Arlington's Community Centers for ages 10-14 June 27th to August 12th.
Summertime Thrills at one of Arlington's community centers or High schools for ages 10-15 sessions 1, 3, 5 and 7.
This camp is a dedicated trip camp offering trips 5 times a week and an opportunity to work the Teen sports and Fitness camp on off-weeks.
Teen Sports and Fitness camp at one of Arlington's community centers will be for ages 13-17, sessions 2,4, and 6.
This camp will focus on all aspects of Fitness and traditional sport games, including the opportunity to work the Summertime Thrills camp on off-weeks.
Evening Park Programs :
Rec on Wheels is an evening program that serves the community by offering recreational fun and weekly special events for the whole family (all ages) in various parks throughout Arlington.
Staff are expected to do outreach, facilitate, and lead family friendly activities at rotating park sites.
These programs are 6-8 hours per week and offered in an outdoor setting with limited shelter.
Programs do not operate if there is inclement weather.

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT (SRA) I - $13.
40/HourResponsible for assisting with the leading of recreation activities and behavior management of participants for a summer camp.
Assists in camp or program operations.
Minimum requirements:
High School Diploma/GED, plus three (3) months of experience in administering recreational programs.
SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT (SRA) II - $14.
25/Hour Responsible for assisting in the planning, leading, and conducting of recreation activities for a camp, behavior management of participants, and assisting in the evaluations of the activities and the participants.
Minimum requirements:
H igh school/GED, plus six (6) months' experience in administering recreational programs.
RECREATION ASSISTANT (RA) III - $17.
05/Hour Responsible for planning, leading, and conducting recreation activities for a summer camp.
Responsible for completing participant and program evaluations.
Performs related supervisory and administrative duties.
Minimum requirements :
High school/GED, plus one-year of experience (equivalent of 4 summers) in administering recreation programs.
RECREATION ASSISTANT (RA) IV - $ 20.
53 /Hour Responsible for directing a summer camp with responsibility for all rooms in that program.
Performs supervisory and administrative duties.
Minimum requirements :
College degree in a related field, plus one (1) year of experience (equivalent of 4 summers) in administrating recreation programs.
R elated experience may be substituted for the college requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Must be 21 years old at time of employment.

The successful candidates will have good character and integrity, positive communication skills, reliable transportation, the ability to complete tasks as assigned, take the initiative when needed, and the ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Staff may be asked to work with individuals with disabilities and attend to personal care needs.
Desirables:
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Working with Summer Camp programs or in a recreation setting; Willingness to drive a 15-passenger van; Working with middle and High school aged youth;Experience in program design, p lanning, implementation and evaluation; Bilingual in English and Spanish; Experience or willingness to work with individuals with disabilities; and/or Understanding of the 40 Developmental Assets Model.

Agree to a criminal background check.
Candidates may be asked to provide letters of reference and/or supporting documentation to verify work/school experience prior to an offer of employment.
Letters of reference may be attached to this application.
Provide negative TB results or submit to a TB screening.
Attend all required trainings.
Some positions require a valid motorized vehicle operator's license and driving history record checks.
Be open to providing personal care as needed to campers (training provided).
Must be CPR and First Aid Certified as of the first day of camp for those positions serving in the capacity as Camp Director, specialty camps, or other positions as designated.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
