RECORDS ASSISTANT

Position Information Arlington County Police Department is currently hiring a Records Assistant in the Administrative Unit of the Criminal Investigations Division.
This position provides administrative support to detectives and civilian staff assigned to the Criminal Investigations Section.
The Records Assistant is responsible for extensive utilization of the Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS) as well as various other databases.
Specific duties include:
Answering telephones and provide customer service and referrals to the public and other law enforcement agencies by retrieving information in the Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS);Maintaining and utilizing multiple databases and records managements systems;Assisting sworn & civilian staff with investigative support;Preparing and compiling reports and correspondence such as unit specific statistical reports, databases, citizen contact letters and case folders in compliance with state and federal reporting requirements;Providing general administrative functions such as maintaining supplies and office equipment, copying, shredding, filing, sorting and distribution of mail; andResponding to records and information requests from the public, law enforcement, and various government officials via telephone, face-to-face, e-mail, and mail.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service, staying organized, managing priorities, and working well in a team setting.
The candidate should also have strong attention to detail, basic typing and computer skills.
Selection Criteria Minimum:
High school diploma or GED18 months of progressively responsible records management experienceNOTE:

Substitution:
Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university can be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis:
Two (2) years = Six (6) months of experience; Four (4) years = One (1) year of experience.
Note:
Education may not substitute for more than one year of experienceAdditional experience may be substituted for up to two (2) years of high school on a year for year basis.
Desirable:
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Working with sensitive and/or confidential information, especially in law enforcement or police administration;Responding to record requests from the general public, over the telephone and in person; and/or Working with automated management information systems or databases such as Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and Incident Based Reporting (IBR); and/orSpecial Requirements Due to the sensitive nature of this position, candidates receiving consideration will be required to undergo a pre-employment polygraph examination and a character/background investigation conducted by the Police Department.
Selected employee must take the state mandated Virginia Criminal Information Network certification class and pass a written examination within six months of hire.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
