Business Intelligence Engineer, Counterfeit Crimes Unit

Amazon's Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU) is looking for a talented Business Intelligence Engineer (preferably based out of Arlington, Virginia or Seattle, WA, with other locations considered case by case) to support Amazon's anti-counterfeiting efforts.
CCU is a team of attorneys, investigators, and analysts who identify bad actors, develop cases against them, and pursue them through legal action, including working with law enforcement to disrupt their activities.
In this role, you will write queries and create data infrastructure to provide investigators with the information they need to find bad actors and understand their behavior.
You will propose and design tools to improve investigative efficiency.
This role requires translating real-world investigative and legal requirements into questions that can be answered with data and building solutions to provide those answers.
This role will partner closely with Amazon's Selling Partner Services team and many other stakeholders to understand and make use of the broad scale of Amazon's data.
You should be passionate about using analytics to inform process improvements, as CCU is constantly striving to increase the scale of bad actors it targets and the civil and criminal cases filed.
Strong SQL abilities are a must as this role will be responsible for the effective extraction and analysis of huge and complex internal data.
Experience in data management and ETL processes is required, this position involves maintaining a large database and creating new pipelines and tables.
Basic python and a working knowledge of AWS services will come in handy.
A successful candidate for this role is highly collaborative and organized.
You should be able to prioritize multiple deliverables and effectively communicate progress and blockers.
You should feel comfortable working across many data sources, be creative in seeking new information, and be capable of understanding and documenting how multiple systems communicate information to each another.
At the same time, you need to be an effective communicator able to explain complex technological concepts to a non-technical audience of lawyers and investigators.
Successful candidates must be mission-oriented and able to pursue projects to completion with a minimum of input or direction.
They must take initiative in creating and improving work processes, and work effectively on a variety of matters simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.

An average day includes a standup with other analysts to discuss project status and prioritization, independent time writing and editing code, meetings with team members and other teams to discuss investigative goals and objectives, and writing documentation.
Days may also include meetings with senior leadership internally and externally on strategic planning and programmatic initiatives.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
