9 Full-time 5 hours ago Full Job Description Position Information The Parks and Natural Resources Division, within Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is hiring a Park Ranger II to administer the Park Ranger Program, which combines park security functions with educational programs about safe park usage, environmental awareness, park history, and natural park features.
The Park Ranger II will ensure the appropriate and safe use of Arlington County's parkland, manage the Park Ranger program budget, and oversee the daily activities, performance, and development of full and part-time staff.
Specific duties include:
Developing strategic goals, policies, procedures, and performance measures for the Park Ranger Program to align with County values, prioritize safety, improve performance, and provide exceptional customer service; Patrolling parkland and public spaces, enforcing park rules, providing conflict resolution for park users, acting as on-site contact for park users in emergency situations, delivering programs, and making community presentations; Serving as liaison to the Police and Fire Department, and internal stakeholders, to coordinate services and programs that promote a safe, functional, and inclusive environment for park users; Serving as a responsive liaison between the Ranger unit and external stakeholders with interactions such as media requests, public meetings, volunteer events, presentations, conferences, educational programs, emergencies, and incidental conversations via phone or email; Conveying Park rules and information about facilities, activities, hours of operation and location of amenities through direct visitor interactions, dissemination of written materials, and presentations; Designing and delivering educational and informational programs and activities about park safety and history, environmental issues, and natural park features; Supporting administrative functions, tracking and reporting metrics, purchasing, time entry, and preparing citations; and Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Selection Criteria Minimums:
Bachelor's Degree in a natural science field, such as Biology, Wildlife Sciences, Resource Management, or related field; One (1) year of experience as a Park Ranger, administering recreational programs, park security, or related field; and Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirables:
Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
Experience Supervising staff; Designing and delivering educational and informational programs; Working in or as a liaison with a public safety department; and Certification in CPR and/or first aid.
Special Requirements Employee must possess or obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within one year of placement in role.
This position requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time during the work shift and will need to lift or move objects that are up to 50 pounds.
The applicant must possess by the time of appointment a valid Driver License.
Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
