AERS Overview: AERS helps organizations build value by taking a Risk Intelligent approach to managing financial, technology and business risks. Business Risk (BR) is a Service Area within AERS. It is comprised of professionals that possess competency and experience in the areas of risk management, business and operational processes, internal auditing, financial reporting and other internal controls, and regulatory compliance. Business risk professionals use these skills to assess, analyze, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of governance, financial and operational control processes, offer recommendations to improve operations, and assist clients with enterprise risk and compliance activities.
Required Skills
Federal Business Risk Consultants must have 2
years of required skills in one or more of the following capabilities:
-Performing financial statement audits and/or auditability assessments
-Experience in reviewing, analyzing, validating, and reconciling financial/accounting information
-Knowledge of Federal accounting and transaction process, internal control objectives and generally accepted accounting principles
-Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 and/or OMB Circular A-123 documentation, testing and reporting requirements.
-Knowledge of risk assessment and/or enterprise risk management concepts
Desired Skills:
- Experience auditing Pension and welfare plans preferred but not required
-Strong written and oral communications skills
-Ability to be self-motivated and demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills
-Ability to comfortably interact with client personnel, including supporting the preparation of executive briefings
-Strong presentation development and writing skills (e.g., proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and Word)
-Consulting experience in support of any of the following financial areas: business process improvement, financial management policies and procedures, financial system integrations, etc.
-Familiarity with U.S. government financial accounting systems
-Certifications desired include: CPA, CGFM, CFA
-Advanced degree such as a MBA
Education Requirements:
BA/BS degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or related field.
Required Work Location and Travel requirements:
Candidates must reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and be open to travel when necessary.
Selected applicants will undergo a security / background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
