Senior Construction Engineer/Specialist Job ID 37487 SENIOR CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST - ARLINGTON, VIRGINA OPPORTUNITY : Under general supervision, participates in the development, execution, supervision, and coordination of all technical aspects of field engineering assignments including development of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems. Incumbent is also responsible for reviewing the performance of subcontractors to assure contract compliance, the application of accepted construction technology and standards, and the acceptable standardization of materials and supplies. May provide technical guidance to less-experienced field engineering personnel. Willingness to relocate to construction site locations is expected. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for providing oversight of construction related activities and supporting the Project Manager, as needed. Develops solutions for unforeseen site conditions. Reviews contract submittals. Assists the PM with the monitoring of day-to-day construction and construction-related activities for all on-site project personnel relative to Safety, Quality, Schedule and Contract Compliance. Monitors construction schedule with project and contractor schedulers to keep on track and to address problems that may cause delays. Assists the PM with ensuring that that all Construction Contract reviews (design, submittals, RFIs, etc.) are reviewed and returned within the contractual timeframe. Recommends the issuance of NCNs for those aspects of work which do not confirm to the requirements of the construction contract. Leads regular progress meetings with Construction Contract and OGCs for each project, when requested. Assists the PM by Coordinating Construction Contractor's need for building systems shutdown and provide assistance in obtaining Reservation permits. Assists with coordination of Commissioning activities, as necessary. Assist in the development and constructability review of SOWs. Coordinates laydown areas and material pathways.May have some interface with the client and upper-level management. Qualifications REQUIREMENTS : Must have a 4-year degree in engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent construction-related work experience, as well as 5 to 8 years of experience in field construction is required. Experience in the construction of large civil/structural and/or industrial projects at domestic and/or foreign locations is preferred. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Requires a working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry practices. Also requires excellent written and oral communication skills, a familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering and construction, and the potential for performing in a lead capacity on a project. Additional Desirable Qualifications: Familiarity with Design Build contracts. Familiarity with scheduling software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project. Familiarity with project management software such as Prolog or Expedition.
