Supervisor : Senior Online Editor
Status: Full-Time, Exempt
The News Editor oversees the daily coverage of news on and its associated platforms. This position will work closely with the Senior Online Editor, collaborating on strategy and development of new digital content, projects and products. The News Editor also works closely with the senior leadership of the PBS NewsHour broadcast to expand the audience reach across all potential platforms. This is a leadership position on an innovative digital team that is expanding and looking for a creative thinker with strong journalistic skills and editorial integrity.
Assigns, supervises and edits news stories, writes content and packages it for maximum reach and impact.
Manages the Deputy Online Editor and oversees the Rundown Blog news production and editing schedule online.
Works closely with the broadcast senior producers/producers to coordinate the digital and broadcast flow of content production and planning.
Coordinate Forward Planning workflow and assignments with an eye toward maximizing effective use of existing resources and the creation of distinctive, brand consistent content.
Identify future stories of likely interest to existing and potential PBS NewsHour audience.
Develop coverage plans in close consultation with senior digital and broadcast colleagues.
Supervise and mentor junior staff.
Perform related special projects or other duties as assigned.
Strong news judgment, writing and copy editing skills.
Superior editorial judgment.
Fluency with common CMS web publishing systems, blogging, social media, and image sharing tools, as well as website analytics software.
HTML, Photoshop required.
CSS, Video, Audio editing experience a plus.
Project management skills with ability to balance and manage multiple priorities on daily, weekly, and long-term schedules.
Ability to analyze work flow and technology and work with others to reshape processes and tools to attain more efficiency.
Strong collaborative skills with ability to develop strong relationships across departments.
Effective communication and proven leadership skills.
Experience supervising a team.
Successful execution of day-parting strategy.
Bachelor?s degree in journalist preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing an online daily news operation and guiding movement of stories.
Or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
