Senior Epic HIM Applications Analyst III

Purpose and Scope
The Sr. Epic HIM Applications Analyst III will serve as the primary lead in the development and functionality of the Epic system/application. This role provides consultation and coordinates design/build/testing/go-live activities for the Inpatient EMR. The Sr. Application Analyst is required to have an in-depth understanding of workflows, policies and procedures, patient care/clinical business objectives, regulatory requirements and industry best practices for patient care.
This position provides technical application support for complex Epic applications, analyzing, evaluating, and troubleshooting and provides high level analysis of multiple applications and/or highly complex applications. The analyst understands and translates the business functionality into the Epic systems configuration and workflow. Coordinates and delegates the preparation of the Epic HIM applications test scripts for application testing, integration testing and user acceptance testing to other HIM Application Analysts.
The Sr. Epic HIM Applications Analyst III ensures application and technical support for the product line in addition to providing triage and troubleshooting to the product customers. Monitors the systems for data quality, efficiency, operation, and data integrity and appropriately escalates issues/problems. This role provides system analysis, design, development, documentation, and configuration as well as testing and training of the product. The Sr. Epic HIM Analyst provides standardization direction for the product aligning the application version and workflow with current standards.
The Sr. Epic HIM Applications Analyst III gathers and analyzes user needs for developing and modifying applications in the healthcare environment or delegates to other analysts. Analyzes complex results, proposes solutions and/or recommendations in addition to building, configuring and/or modifying the Epic HIM applications using existing application tools. This role also provides complex application support, writes documentation and specifications.
Position Requirements
The Sr. Epic HIM Applications Analyst III is responsible for achieving in-depth knowledge of Epic System's HIM software and serves as a liaison between end users and Epic implementation staff. Conducts regular day-to-day communication with the Epic's installation team, reviews the software, analyzes business operations, and works with Epic, other third party vendors, project team(s), business representatives, subject matter experts, and end users to tailor the system to fit the organization's needs. The Analyst routinely performs in-depth analyses of workflows, data collection, report details/specifications, and assists with technical issues and is responsible for developing and documenting the internal procedures that are used in conjunction with Epic's applications, designs, builds, tests, installs and maintains those solutions. Evaluate and understand dependencies between applications to understand if making a change in one application would have a negative impact in another application.
A solid background in the operation of a hospital's HIM Department. Thorough understanding of current processes for the activities that fall under HIM: Chart Tracking, Release of Information, Deficiency Tracking, and/or Coding. The Epic HIM Analyst should have knowledge of current Joint Commission guidelines for patient health information management and chart completion, and current release of information workflows and HIPAA requirements. Basic knowledge of coding, abstracting, physician query, and billing communication/correction workflows
Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a health, science, or business field, or an equivalent level of professional experience required
6 years industry related experience in a IS setting (Healthcare/Health Services, Information Services) or within applicable area in healthcare operations, with a minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in information applications, including performing programming or applications analysis, or equivalent. Thorough understanding of current processes for the activities that fall under HIM: Chart Tracking, Release of Information, Deficiency Tracking and/or Coding (nice to have, but not necessary).
3 or more years of experience working on Epic HIM and configuration with success ? taking the HIM modules from build to 'go live' is highly desirable.
Certification
Existing Epic certification in appropriate module(s) is preferred. Epic certification is required within 9 months from hire.
Skills and Knowledge
Advanced understanding in the development and/or maintenance of Electronic Medical Record Systems. A deep understanding of the HIM setting and associated workflows.
Proficient in all aspects of design, development and testing and best practices of enterprise application implementations.
Knowledge of Epic product suites and the implementation process standards.
Demonstrated knowledge of Epic HIM Applications sufficient to design, document and develop functional and technical specifications and process standards.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill in developing complex software solutions
Familiar with all phases of testing: unit/functions, system, integration and user acceptance tests.
Knowledge of health care operations and structure, general requirements and use of information system applications in the practicing health care environment is desired. Thorough understanding of hospital inpatient operations.
Proficient in complex troubleshooting and problem solving, performing root cause analysis on development and production support related issues.
Understanding of the technical aspects of applications and integrated tools used to complete the business cycle.
Advanced understanding in the design, development and/or maintenance of Electronic Medical Record systems.
Ability to acquire knowledge through research or self-training where needed for effective implementation.
Ability to identify key business processes to validate and or re-engineer for optimum integration with Epic modules.
Demonstrated ability to apply business analysis tools and plan and manage actions in response to changing business needs.
Ability to provide subject matter expertise in relationship to applications supported.
Ability to independently prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects and/or priorities.
Ability to perform and teach analysis and problem solving principles with emphasis in user relations, data gathering techniques, and management information applications to IT staff is required. Able to teach application functionality, design standards, process changes to the end user community

Duties and Responsibilities
Acting as the primary contact for the Epic HIM module for all phases of the system development life cycle
Attending required training/certification programs as required by EPIC to obtain foundational system knowledge and competency
Serving as a liaison between end users, third parties, and Epic implementation staff to ensure the system meets the organization's business needs
Performing in-depth analysis and documentation of current state/future state workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical requirements associated with Epic software
Understanding the choices involved in application configuration
Investigate end users' preference while making build decisions and analyzing business operations as they relate to build decisions
Setting standards for naming and numbering conventions and security classifications using the Epic Style Guide for Master File Naming and Numbering Conventions
Populating databases during the initial system build with assistance from Epic
Prioritizing and implementing requested changes to the system
Application testing scenario development, execution, and remediation to ensure system functionality and integration with other applications/systems as appropriate
Ensuring that data coming across an interface into the Epic application meets the business need
Troubleshooting problems and questions from end users
Working with report writers to ensure that the application has the necessary reports
Design, validate and confirm new or changed functionality with the Epic environment that meets customer specifications. Validates the designing for each application assigned, under the control of the change management application and user development request.
Understand and translate the business functionality into Epic system configuration and workflow validations.
Work with the team leadership to create detailed application designs that conform to application architecture guidelines.
Develop and modify system configurations that meet design requirements.
Update Change Control schedule with upcoming production releases. Monitor production of recently migrated components.
Provide complex qualitative and quantitative analysis on data and information collected as part of application requirement gathering.
Analyze system requirements and determine system functional specifications
Provide consulting support for customized implementation and installation of the software and related integration elements.
Prioritize system build efforts.
Performs and coordinates application analysis and impact analysis of new or different applications, processes or changes.
Work closely with business users and application team to design, build and execute a comprehensive integration and user acceptance test plan and scripts. Coordinates development of application testing scripts and conversion plans. Makes recommendations and provide alternatives with regards to various development and support initiatives.
Gather requirements, provide fit gap analysis and create effective technical solutions for the business needs.
Collaborate with vendors, staff and other analysts to resolve outstanding issue relating to design and workflow challenges.
Conduct most phases of testing: unit, assembly, integration and user acceptance tests.
Follow project compliance procedures such as obtaining sign-offs before developing program code or migration to production.
Provide input on required processes and schedule dependencies on the overall project roll-out plan.
Participates and/or leads projects, estimates costs, time frames, staffing requirements and prepares cost justifications for assigned project.
Uses status reports for project oversight.
Responsible for and oversees day to day tracking and follow-up on issues and questions of daily operations. Proactively identify impact of changes upon other applications and downstream systems.
Serves as point of contact for resolution of complex application problems.
Provides complex application support and guidance to end users and provides technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
Prepares written documentation of various types; application documentation, analytical reports, functional specifications, training manuals, status reports, etc. Create and maintain all necessary documentation and training materials for application implementation and changes. Prepares and validates complete applications documentation for operations and sets programming specifications for user departments.
Evaluates and instructs/teaches other.
Provides input and assists with the development of departmental policies and procedures as they relate to the use of clinical applications.
Conducts and/or participates in in-service and various educational programs for professional development.
Orients, mentors, and transfers knowledge to staff.
Demonstrated experience and proven expertise in problem-solving and debugging techniques.
Demonstrated ability in specification development, quantitative methods, system documentation and change management.
Proven ability to effectively use vendor-provided and/or other computing tools to tailor systems and applications to meet specifications and user requirements.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Proficient in the analysis of task requirements, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with the development and support of Epic applications. Proficient at specifying user requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards to support business requirements.
Strong problem and issue resolution experience.
Previous project management experience preferred, experience in information technology as a business analyst or systems analyst in a medium to large organization with multiple technology implementations preferred.
Proven communication skills with internal and external installation and support teams, reviewing software upgrades, software testing analysis, analyzing business operations and workflows, and working with vendor and end users to tailor systems to organizational needs.
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues in terms clearly understood by technical and non-technical audiences.
On-call support on a rotating schedule.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
