Safety Engineer SME-1845

Job Description
As a member of the ODASD SE technical staff and working closely with the Director, Engineering Enterprise, support system safety engineering on all major DoD programs to help program managers identify and mitigate risks, shape technical planning and management, support and advocate for DoD Component engineering initiatives, provide insight to OSD stakeholders, and identify systemic safety engineering issues for resolution above the program level.
Clearance: SECRET or Higher
Location: National Capital Region (Pentagon and Mark Center). Travel may be required. Telework is not permitted.
Type: Professional, Exempt, Salaried
Work Environment: Onsite at customer location; nominally 8 hours per day Monday through Friday during the business hours of 0730-1630 but may require additional hours on short notice to support stringent schedules and respond to urgent needs. Federal Holidays are observed. Environment requires working collaboratively with other Program staff members and external stakeholders and organizations including ranking DoD Civilian and Military personnel.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum 5 years (10 years preferred) applicable experience in an Engineering, Scientific, Analysis, or field related to major Department of Defense programs.
Duties
Systems Engineering Oversight of Major DoD Space Programs to shape acquisition solutions, promote early technical planning, promote the application of sound systems engineering and related technical disciplines across the Department's acquisition community and programs, and raise awareness of the importance of effective system safety engineering, provide technical insights and drive the state-of-the-practice into program planning and execution in a the area of system safety on the program.
Coordinate with the DoD safety community on guidance and tools related to Systems Safety considerations in design.
Survey Services/industry via NDIA to identify gaps in MIL-STD-882E content for hardware, software and review of safety Data Item Descriptions for standard task options.
Perform a System Safety policy/guidance gap analysis and propose to DASD(SE) the process to close the gaps (e.g. Department policy issuances, DAG Chapter 4, SEP Outline, MIL-STD-882E, DAU system safety training)
Continuously refresh the System Safety body of knowledge and propose to the DASD(SE) updates to the System Safety section of the DAG to reflect updates to the system safety body of knowledge.
Review DoD system safety policies and engineering management practices and procedures and perform reviews of System's Engineering plans and relevant safety program documents for adherence to applicable safety policy, guidance and best practice.
Propose recommendations for new or revised System Safety policy or guidance
Develop, prepare and coordinate draft guidance or policy for DASD(SE) approval.
Provide recommended System Safety inputs for DASD(SE) weekly staff meetings and weekly activity reports and System Safety inputs to data calls, briefings, articles, and reports as required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
