Career Placement Specialist

Opportunity at a Glance:
DeVry University, is actively seeking candidates interested in working at our Norfolk, VA campus as a Career Advisor. This dynamic role is responsible for advising students regarding career strategies, job search methods, resume preparation, internships, and related matters. Additional responsibilities include, ensuring accurate reporting in HireDevry and partnering with local businesses to increase job leads for DeVry students and alumni.
Conduct individual and group career advising sessions with both the undergraduate and graduate school populations and alumni
Advise students on career development, job seeking skills and industry trends in order to effectively prepare them to gain employment upon graduation
Assist graduates in securing educationally related employment within 26 weeks of graduation through bi-weekly contact of students, resume assistance and critiquing and conducting mock interviews
Provide ongoing feedback to students with respect to individual job search skills
Assist students in identifying areas requiring further training or knowledge and work with them in creating personal and professional development programs, including co-op and internship opportunities
Ensure accurate data entry and reporting of all activity into HireDevry, including observation notes, career advancements/employments and job development activity, etc.
Perform specific job development activities for entry level or alumni job leads and enters employers and job leads into HireDevry
Develop long term working relationships with businesses and industries
Respond to job opening requests by sending appropriate resumes to employers
Work closely with the Employer Liaison to ensure that appropriate job leads are found for the advisors caseload
Participate in student/alumni activities, career fairs, graduation, Advisory Boards, Program Reviews, Senior Project Presentations, inter-campus relations, outreach and other related activities
Complete other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree required
One to three years of combined career advising and employer relations experience required
Experience working within an educational institution preferred
At least one year corporate relations, corporate outreach or marketing experience preferred
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong PC skills and experience with Internet search engines

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
